Buckets Of Flowers

The leaves are beginning to turn golden and we feel the change of season in the garden, but we have still been picking buckets and buckets of flowers.  In the last week we've sent buckets of flowers to London, Birmingham, Hereford and Shrewsbury, and we've provided wedding flowers to fulfil a light but very colourful brief, and funeral flowers for a lady who loved to garden.  

Very excitingly, all our bulbs have now arrived for winter planting, and we are so unusually on top of our work this year that we have already started to get them into the ground.  Yesterday we filled a trench with beautiful narcissus varieties - Calgary and Bridal Veil and Thalia - and planted out young Canterbury bells plants over the top of them, so that we can look forward to picking from that bed from April until June.  The bulbs look so fresh and smooth and packed with life, waiting in their orange nets for their turn to be planted out.  The thought of all those lovely new flowers to pick next spring is almost too much!  And since we've had the manpower to mulch the garden with manure this year, the soil is immeasurably improved, making the trenches much easier to dig.  One down, ten to go...
